Greenbroook Elementary School

Mrs. McLaughlin

Welcome 5th Grade Students and Parents!

I am looking forward to a great 5th grade year with you. I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to work at Greenbrook this year with such a wonderful group of teachers. This will be my 16th year of teaching and I still love coming to school every day to work with children!

1. I am from Hawaii - born and raised.

2. My family just got a new puppy in July - a miniature dachshund. Her name is Pua (Hawaiian word for flower).

3. I attended U.C. Berkeley and majored in Chinese Sociology and played on the women's soccer team. Go Bears!

4. My family means the world to me. I live with my husband and two boys, Sam and Charlie, in Walnut Creek.

5. If I weren't a teacher, I would be a nurse or another profession that provided support to others.

6. I absolutely LOVE to travel and have been to some interesting and remote places.

7. My favorite movie is Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory - the original movie. I love Charlie Bucket!

8. Having good manners is very important to me.

9. I understand that every child is unique.

10.Inside the classroom, I feel it's important to balance academic development with other areas of a child's development such as social relationships and emotional intelligence.

Go Getters (for students who would like extra challenges)

If 5th graders would like to participate in EXTRA projects, we have what is called GO GETTERS. Mrs.V hosts the links of this program and started this program many years ago and it's a great way to get kids interested in a variety of academic subjects, etc. It is up to each 5th grader to read and follow the directions, keep all work, and be in charge of getting work done by the due date each trimester.
