Words Matter Week February 6 - 10, 2017
During the week of Feb. 6-10th, we will be celebrating Words Matter Week. We know how much words affect us, positively and negatively. Allow this week to provide for a conversation around words that matter to you and your family. We will be promoting Words Matter Week and spreading positivity by participating in the Great Kindness Challenge. A fun Random Acts of Kindness Challenge meant to spark the awareness that our words and actions have the power to make others feel good about him or herself or they can bring others down. Students will also be creating a Words Matter Mural in the MPR. Each day students can place positive words on a post it and stick it on the Mural throughout the day.  By the end of the week we hope to have a mural of positive words that matter to all of us at Greenbrook. Come check it out!
2/10: Spirit Day - BRIGHT COLORS

Did you know that 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students as well as their parents volunteer their time to provide an important service to the Greenbrook community in the morning?

Greenbrook School continues to have a successful curb side drop off program, staffed by dedicated kids and parents. This program provides a service to the parents so they do not have to park and walk their child(ren) to class. It also improves the overall traffic flow around the school during the morning. As a reward for their time at the curb, the kids are taken to Boomers in Livermore at the end of the school year. This is funded by “tips” provided by those using the valet service during “tip your valet week” which will be held in early Spring. As you can see, the kids are out there rain or shine, opening car doors and greeting the drivers with a friendly “good morning” and “have a nice day”.

Sign up now to participate in Valet for this year!!
Please contact the Valet Coordinator, Darren Nicholson with any questions or concerns.

Dear Greenbrook Families,

It is hard to believe we are in the final stretch of the school year. It feels like just last month I was cleaning the dust off backpacks and searching for lunch packs to begin the 2015-16 school year!

My kids had another great school year and I am hopeful that is the case for all of you as well.  For my family Greenbrook is not just a school our kids attend, it is truly a wonderful collection of teachers, staff and parents that want to see our children thrive and be the best versions of themselves. I know when I drop my boys off at school, they are with amazing teachers and classroom aides that give each child individual support when needed. I feel so lucky that no matter what teacher my kids get next year, it's a win!

I want to shed some light on the wonderful fundraising efforts that took place in support of the Eagle Fund throughout this past year. I hope you all enjoyed watching our pencil thermometer grow as each event completed. With your help, the EAGLE Fund surpassed our goal of raising $215,000 and raised over $237,000! We started off by having a great family donation at registration this year. A very big thank you to those who were able to donate!

Here are a few things I love about the Family Donation at Registration:

*We are one of the lowest suggested amounts in the school district!

*We have a payment plan! I personally really like this option as the payments are spread out over three months.

*You can choose the amount you'd like to donate if you want to donate more or less

You will notice during next year's online registration, the suggested amount has been raised from $295 to $325. Why? The Eagle Fund agonized over this decision. It has been over 3 years since the family donation suggested amount has been raised. It is nice to be in a good economy, but with that, expenses and other charges have been raised. In an effort to combat those increased costs, we chose to up the suggested amount by $30 per child.

Below is a list of the final numbers for the Eagle Fund fundraisers along with a list of fundraising chairs that made this possible. These parents worked countless hours to ensure we made our goal. If you happen to see them around please give them a big thank you for contributing their time and effort to make our fundraising goal possible.

**Additional funds made for this school year will be designated to our Playground Fund, please see below**

There are so many parents to thank that allowed the Eagle Fund to reach our goal this year. Whether you chaired an event, solicited one single donation, sponsored an event, sponsored an online auction party, volunteered at an event or attended an event, you supported EAGLE Fund! We could not have reached our goal without you!

These funds allow our children to engage in programs that other schools may not have. With these funds, our children have classroom aides, technology, reading and math intervention, along with art and music classes. The EAGLE Fund also assists with backing Soul Shoppe and the library. Each and every student benefits from Greenbrook's ed fund the entire year.

What's in store for 2016-17 School Year? We are looking for parents who would like to contribute with big or small positions to assist us fundraise next year! Committees ensure that each volunteer isn't overworked or stressed. It allows a volunteer to master one selected area of a fundraiser rather than the entire event.

We are forming a Carnival Committee - small positions include:
Marketing
Setting up Volunteers
Ordering attractions and games
Selling tickets
Decorations
Ordering prizes

We are forming a Donations Committee - small positions include:
Mailing donations solicitation letters
Selecting a specific area in Danville/San Ramon to solicit donations
Soliciting family donations
Inputting donations into website
Soliciting companies via email

A brief update on our playground plans. Thanks to our live paddle raise at the gala and the generosity of C&J Fencing, we have raised a total of $27,400! Over the summer our playground committee will be meeting with playground companies to plan out ideas and get estimates. The great news is Greenbrook is only responsible for raising funds for the playground equipment. We are happy to announce that SRVUSD will be installing the new playground at no cost to our school! More information to come in August, but we are currently looking for corporate sponsors as well. If you think your company would like to sponsor a new playground for our community, please reach out to us!

In closing, I would also like to thank our departing board members for their dedication and years of service: Nicky Jewett (This year's Shining Award Recipient for Greenbrook Elementary), Angie Corritone, Ben Mendoza, Jeff Judson, Erica Starkey, Holly Ravin and Michelle Murphy.
